SYMBOLIC WEDDING
One of the most popular choices for destination weddings is to get married on the Amalfi Coast with a symbolic ceremony, a ritual devoid of legal value but full of significance!
In most cases, the couple decides to have a civil wedding in their country and a celebration in Italy, free from the stress of paperworks. The symbolic ceremonies last about 20 minutes and can be celebrated by a pastor, an Italian officer or even a family member. You can include your personal vows, your favorite song, a poem, a religious prayer or even a pagan rite, such as the release of butterflies, the ritual of wine or the rite of candles.
In addition, this type of wedding ceremony can take place wherever you want: on a panoramic terrace overlooking the sea, in an enchanted garden, on the beach at sunset, among ancient ruins, by boat or in any other place that has a special meaning for you and your partner.
CIVIL WEDDING
The civil ceremony is recognized as a legal marriage worldwide and can take place not only in an Italian town hall but also in a variety of places approved by the local municipality: gardens, panoramic terraces, historic villas, museums or, in some cases, private venues.
The documents required for a civil wedding vary according to the countries of origin of the couple. The civil ceremony, lasting about 20 minutes, is celebrated in Italian by the mayor or a civil chancellor, who reads some articles from the Italian civil code. It can be personalized with music and readings. The presence of an official interpreter and two witnesses over the age of 18 is required.
SAME SEX WEDDING

The civil union follows the same procedures as for the civil wedding and can take place at the town hall or outside, in a place approved by the municipality, such as a garden overlooking the sea or a terrace with a beautiful view.
CATHOLIC WEDDING
According to the Catholic Church, marriage represents an act of love and the union between God and his people.
Catholic weddings can take place only in a Church and can be legally binding (matrimonio concordatario). Specific requirements have to be met in order to have a Catholic marriage in Italy, and the couple must provide a series of documents that ascertain their faith and their active spiritual life.
The ceremony lasts about 1 hour and 15 minutes and can be celebrated in English or in Italian with an interpreter. The wedding celebration is free, but the spouses are encouraged to offer donations to support the needs of the parish. No wedding is celebrated during religious and local holidays, on Sunday or during the Easter period.
Some parishes may have very strict rules, and may prohibit off-shoulder dresses, excessive floral decorations or non-religious music.
PROTESTANT WEDDING
According to the Protestant Church, with the marriage the bride and groomy promise love and loyalty to the end of their lives and receive the blessing of the Lord for their journey together.
The Protestant Church in Italy is represented by different denominations: Anglican, Baptist, Reformed, Lutheran, Presbyterian, Evangelist and others. The differences in theology and practice are reflected in the wedding ritual and in the requirements for getting married. A Protestant ceremony can be celebrated anywhere by a pastors and be personalized with readings, music and vows.
Protestant marriages can be both blessings without civil value and legally recognized marriages.
JEWISH WEDDING
Marriage for this religion restores the unity of Adam (which encompasses the two principles of male and female) and guarantees the continuity of the Jewish people through procreation.
An Orthodox Jewish ceremony in Italy can have legal value and must take place in an Orthodox synagogue. Orthodox synagogues are only in the most important cities: Rome, Florence, Venice, Naples and Trieste where the bigger Jewish communities are most present.
A Jewish Reform marriage can be celebrated anywhere but has only religious value. The specific rules for a Jewish wedding are the same as in your country and your rabbi will have to prepare the necessary documents to present to the Italian rabbi. The exact details and procedures must be discussed directly with the Italian rabbi.
HINDU WEDDING
In Hindu culture, the sacrament of marriage (Vivaah Sanskar) is not considered simply the union of two individuals, but rather the union of two families.
The Hindu wedding may vary according to the local traditions of the different parts of India and the marriage ritual can last three or more days. The most important moment of the ceremony is the ritual of the Saptapadi or seven steps, when bride and groom exchange seven promises that will bind their lives forever.
BLESSING AND VOWS RENEWALS
A renewal of vows is a ceremony that celebrates the union and evolution of a relationship. It is requested by couples who are already married and want to renew their commitment to each other.
The format is similar to the symbolic ceremony and can include the original marriage vows of the couple. It hasn’t legal value and can take place everywhere.
